Upcoming Guest Artists

We are happy to say LA tattoo artist Tim Mueller is coming back to Graceland Tattoo. He will be tattooing January 10th-19th, 2012. Tim's tattoo work is bold and bright using an interesting color pallet. Time is a really relaxed, friendly person. This will be his fourth trip here and if you book some time with him I'm sure you will like the experience. Check out Tim's work on our Guest Artist page  or visit Tim's personal site.

Also, my good friend Ty McEwen will be back for round three this coming April! Ty is a fine artist and specializes bio organic tattoo art. His texturing and use of light sets his work apart. You'll be hard pressed to find his style anywhere in the hudson valley. Ty is also an accomplished portrait artist. Take advantage of the limited opportunity. He'll be here from April 15th-21st then, I think,  it's off to Europe for a bit.

Go to our guest artist page or TyMcEwen.com to see Ty's amazing portfolio.

Diego's Anniversary

So the tail end of November marked Diego's fourth anniversary as a member of the Graceland Tattoo family. It's been great to have him here with us and he has proven to be an integral part of the team. There have been a lot of laughs and many, many, satisfied customers. I'm thankful that Diego is not only tattooing along side me but he's also a friend. Here's to many years to come.

Don't forget your holiday gift certificate.

Every year we rack our brains to find an awesome gift to give friends and family. Swing in to the tattoo parlor and grab some gift certificates. It's a great way to let the people you love know what's up.   Steer clear of the mall parking lot. I know I hate trying to find a parking space during the holidays. Even better, you don;t have to deal with all the  LONG LINES. In the end, you're giving someone an awesome gift. One they'll have forever.

Success at Off the MAp Tattoo

So I had an amazing time at Off the Map Tattoo. it was an honor to be among on the roster of guest artist they cycle through all year long. Shop manager Mary Bowen is top notch as and Tim Baldwin is always awesome. Owner Gabe Ripley is a hell of a guy and the owner of Off the MapTattoo as well as Tattoo Now.  He also heads theParadise Tattoo Gathering and artist Retreat. It's clear that he gets tremendous support from some key players on his staff.  I always have a blast hanging out with my friend Brian Coperthite of Tattoo Now. Of course the tattoo crew is top notch. Chloe, Kelly, Max and Tim are awesome to work with. Kelly Doty and I worked on a collaborative tattoo. A traditional woman's head done in the "Coleman style" with a modern take on a headress made of racoon. It was a blast and I think the two uf us came up with something great. It was important to me that I brought  a very simple design to the table; one that had a real antique feel. Since I knew it would be juxtapose to Kelly's work I wanted to be sure my end was not very sophisticated. It was an awsome experience and I look forward to returning. i am so thankful for the opportunity. By the way, if you are out that way and want a killer breakfast (Vegie or vegan in particular) go to The Green Bean. Gabe, his daughter and I went...it was AMAZING!

WALK IN THURSDAYS!

To better serve our huge client base we will have walk ins every Thursday starting November 10th. Each Thursday one of our Artist will be open to accept walk in's. This will be on a first come first serve basis. YOU WILL NOT be able to make appointments with the walk in artist on that day. If you have a future appointment we ask that you keep it for the scheduled day rather than shoot for a walk in. That way we can keep walk ins available for others. Of course you can always walk in for something other than the appointment you already have scheduled. Spread the word.

I love great art.

I commissioned a painting of the parlor. It was painted by a friend of mine, Evan McGuigan. He is so talented with a paint brush. I'm proud to hang this on the wall.

Shop updates

So we have returned from the Paradise Tattoo Gathering. Diego and I had a chance to do some great tattoos. We met with friends and made some new ones. We had the opportunity to take a few good seminars and came back enlightened and refreshed. Pepper took a few seminars and had a minute to recharge his battery while Shane did some writing. Brian tried to recover from the drinking session he had Thursday night. And Allison came up Sunday to take in the scenery. A good time was had by all.

With that, our very own Pepper Maher has his drawings featured in the October issue of INKED MAGAZINE. Check out the "sketchbook" section. We are all really proud of him. He is an amazing artist. Pick up a copy and check it out!

Hunter has left the building.

Well, Hunter Spanks came to do a little stint at Graceland Tattoo and has moved on down the road. All of us had a great time. Hunter had the chance to tattoo some cool people and they had a chance to get some cool tattoos Alla Spanks. There was a late night art session, a lazy Sunday BBQ and on his final night Hunter and Adam traded tattoos. They swapped Kewpie dolls. Both on the shin meat. It was a a great opportunity for Adam to get tattooed by him and for Adam to tattoo an artist  he's respected for a long time. The shop also scored some flash and an original water color. Thank you Hunter.

Now...Adam is on to Hell City in Phoenix, AZ! If you are looking for some sweet traditional or just a good clean tattoo hit him up

Diego, Pepper and the guys are heading up to Rochester for the Roc City Tattoo Expo.

These conventions are going on simultaneously, August 26-78th.

Adam to work the Hell City Convention.

I've had a recent change of plans. Gabe from Off the Map and TattooNOW has been kind enough to extend an invitation for me to join them in Hell City- Pheonix, Arizona. I will be working with the team of Off the Map. I will not be attending the Roc City Tattoo convention in Rochester, NY. Diego and Pepper will still be representing  Graceland Tattoo at Roc City. If your interested in setting up an appointment with me at Hell City get at me. Since I just signed on I am WIDE open.

TATTOO SCHOOL? REALLY?

The next ingenious show on TLC is "TATTOO SCHOOL". Yet another slap in the face. How can you learn a craft in 2 weeks? This will just encourage these out of the house mutts to "follow their passion". Lisa Fasulo (the teacher) should be ashamed of herself.

In a galaxy far far away...

Some of you may remember the Facebook contest we held a few moths back. Adam was asking for people to submit a "dream tattoo" they wanted. Ed Martin won with his traditional Star Wars idea. Well today, it goes down. We will be taking video of the process and posting for you to check out...May the force be with you.

Stellar Facebook Review

"" This one is for Allison since I have yet to get a tattoo from Graceland. Perhaps in the near future though. :) A couple of months ago I had a problem getting my nose ring back in. I went into graceland to see if someone could help me out. Allison was wonderful, gentle, and super patient since it did take a while to get it back in. She walked me through everything she had to do. (I thought I was going to have to have it repierced but it turns out the holes didn't match up right.) I have always gotten my piercings done here and I will continue to do so.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

As many of you know, I made a facebook offer to all of you that follows us on the site.  I asked my clients to throw out there tattoo ideas and if I chose your design you'd get a FREE tattoo! The only requirements were that it needed to be approximately the size of a CD (remember those?) and that I would have complete artistic control over the design.  If your idea was chosen we'd order a pizza and you'd be gifted the tattoo by me. I left the contest open for just under 24 hours. Thanks to everyone who threw their hats into the ring. I liked so many of your ideas. Many of you had some great concepts so it was hard to boil it down.  In the end, a good client of mine Ed Martin wants a "Traditional Star Wars" tattoo &  I feel that this is the perfect project to meet my artist goals.  I will post pics once the sketch is complete and then again after the tattoo is finished.

Senseless

You know, we have a lot of friends and clients that are members of law enforcement. What happened a few days ago in Poughkeepsie is sobering to say the very least. Our thoughts and hearts go out to the friends & family of Officer John Falcone, the man who gave his life while keeping the rest of us safe.

Celebrating 8 years.

Graceland Tattoo opened it's doors 8 years ago today. I'd to thank everyone who has walked through these doors. We have made so many friends and some have become like family. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I also want to thank my team who has also become my family. You've helped make the journey a memorable one.

Philadelphia Tattoo Convention

So Allison, Pepper, our friend Evan and I took a trip to the "City of Brotherly Love" to spend the day at the Philly Tattoo Convention. It was a really great time. We scored some great books and a few bottles of ink. Pepper and I got to speak with Mike Drexler about his tattoo machines, and I picked up a model 7 liner. I guess Mike has a machine shop up in Woodstock. I hope to  take a tour one day. Allison had some cutting work done by her friend Brian Decker from Pure Body Arts and I was lucky enough to get tattooed by Mike Adams from Detroit Michigan. It was good to see so many great artists and some new products too. I posted my new tattoo to show you Mr. Adams talent.

So many things.

Hey,  it's been a while since I posted but a lot has happened since November 2010. We updated the studio a bit and hooked Joe's room up for everyone's comfort.  Joe has been doing some really solid work and we have a blast whenever he is here, which unfortunately is not enough (he's only in on Saturdays).  Also, Joe or "Pepper" as we like to call him, became a father.  His wife, Amy, gave birth to a beautiful girl named Presley Marie.  How fitting, she is now a part of the Graceland Tattoo family.

Allison's been working a lot, expanding our jewelry selection and piercing nearly 6 days a week. Her band PLATFORM ONE has been pretty busy and she is writing yet another screenplay.  It's been great to have her on full time.  Diego has been doing some killer tattoos and started working on a sleeve of his own. He is about to finish the entire 6 series of LOST in just about 2 months time.  Shane our "LOST Guru" is living La Vida Loco.  He finished his Masters Degree, been getting tattooed and writing a lot.  I expect he will churn out a cool project or two in 2011.

Several months ago I started watching LOST, but being a new father hasn't allowed Keely and I to finish it.  More importantly, I went back to using electric coil machines and I really like the change. I feel myself reconnecting with the roots of my tattoo career.  I have been getting tattooed quite a bit again.  It's been really invigorating and as many of you know, sometimes it fucking kills.  I'm going to Philly tomorrow with Pepper and Allison to check out the convention that they have every year.  I hope to comeback with some art for the wall and a new tattoo.  Keely and I really love being parents, our little girl is so cool.  She has changed my life in ways I never knew possible.

Tim Mueller will be visiting from LA - which is always a great time. We just booked his next trip for March 26-April 1st 2011.  We have a handful of world class artists set to come through in 2011, and once the dates are finalized you'll be the first to know.  The studio has been business as usual and busy as hell.  We are just about a week away from our 8 year anniversary, which is a proud moment for me. A lot has happened in those eight years and as I reflect...I've have never been in a better place as I am today.  Some people have come and gone and it's always been for the best. We have so many new clients and continue to build relationships with so many people from years gone by.  Here's to another great year.
